Decorating With Love
by Judy ChristophersonChristmas is coming! A season that offers bright celebration. Immediately we think of special treats for the dinner table and special music to fill our homes. How do you decorate for the season? If you find yourself dragging out the dusty old tree that matches nothing, cramming it in the corner, waiting for the season to pass so you can stuff it back in its box unceremoniously, here are some ways to enjoy decorating for Christmas this year.
Christmas can be exciting without being overwhelming. Remember to focus on the reason for our celebration -- God's grace in sending us His Son Jesus to us. The season is ultimately about God's love for people in giving us His best gift. We too can reflect that love for people that honors Him as we prepare for the season.
Decorate with love for the family. Some aspects of Christmas may be more important to your family than others. Perhaps it's decorating the tree or baking Christmas treats. Whatever it is, make it the best it can be. Handmade ornaments or homemade cookies are a great way to show love to those special people who deserve that extra bit of attention during the season.
Create memories. Some of our best experiences have occurred in the pursuit of adding to our collection of angels. Our first angel was purchased when our family was struggling financially. Now we have several of them. Looking at the collection reminds us of so many family stories.
Decorate to share with others. Invite people into your home and let them experience the joy of the season. There are several things you could do in your home:
- Make the entry hall warm and inviting. Add fresh evergreen boughs and blueberry branches to permeate the air with their fragrances.
- Add bowls of apples to share with the children.
- Give small gifts of remembrance, such as the Christmas Digest, which shares inspirational stories that uplift and encourage.
- Add glass jars filled with candy to entice those with a sweet tooth.
- Add festive baubles to coffee tables or fireplace mantles. These add to the favorite places where family and friends come together.
Love for family and friends, creating memories and sharing in the festivities with others is a focus for great holiday decor.
