JESUS,THE WAY

Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” (John 14:6 NIV)

Just as the titles given to the Messiah in Isaiah’s prophesy revealed who Jesus would be, so the names of Jesus given in the New Testament help us to understand who He is.

When Jesus told His disciples, “You know the way to the place where I am going.” (John 14:4 NIV), Thomas responded in a manner in which we can all relate. A loose paraphrase could be, “Huh? What are you talking about? We don’t have a clue where you are going, or the slightest idea of how to get there.”

Throughout Jesus’ ministry He had been showing His disciples, with words and actions, that He was in fact God. Thus, when He made the statement, “I am the way”, He wasn’t being egotistical, intolerant or exclusive. Rather, He was simply stating a fact.

Jesus is the way to God.

The whole reason Jesus came to earth was to reveal God and make the way for us to come into relationship with God.

Jesus’ life made God’s character known to us. He displayed God’s love, compassion and mercy, as well as God’s holiness and power.

Jesus’ death provided the way in which would could be reconciled to God. Because Jesus lived a sinless life, His death on the cross paid the penalty for our sins making the impossible possible.

On our own, we could never be good enough to come into the presence of the Holy God of the Universe, but by accepting Jesus’ sacrifice, His righteousness becomes our own.

Thus, Jesus is the only way to God.

~Thank you Jesus! You are the Way to God. Show me how to walk in Your steps.
