Angels Sent From God

"An angel from heaven appeared to him and strengthened him." Luke 22:43

When my mother was forty years old, she became pregnant - with twin girls. There were five other children and we lived on a large farm in a rural area. There was no end of work to be done. It was a hard pregnancy and six weeks before the twins were to be born, my Mother developed toxemia and was hospitalized.

My dad was left at home, taking care of five children, managing our large dairy farm and deeply concerned for my Mother. My Mother's prognosis did not look good and there was a very real possibility that she might not make it. Would there be two newborns and the loss of a wife for him to face as well?

One morning, after we children were all at school, my Father was immensely discouraged. He just didn't know what to do. Just then, two men knocked on the kitchen door. He had never seen them before. They came into the house and lovingly read encouraging verses from the Bible to him. They prayed for my Father, encouraged him and then left.

He never saw them again, but he was sure they were angels. Their visit filled him strength and the hope that all would go well. Shortly afterward, my mother gave birth to my twin sisters. She was home again a week later. Other than having two small sisters to baby-sit, life returned to normal.

Angels sent from God. It happens all the time, more often than we realize. During the past few years, so many people have told me stories of God sending angels to protect, strengthen and encourage them. Lets not forget to thank God for sending His angels to minister to us.

Father, so often I have heard stories and have experienced how your ministering angels have helped, strengthened and encouraged your children. Thank you for being so kind to us. Amen.
