"Even to your old age and gray hairs, I am He, I am He who will sustain you. I have made you and I will carry you; I will sustain you and I will rescue You." Isaiah 46:4
"Hello, this is Mary from Eaton's department store calling. I have an elderly woman here. She says her name is Ella Kehler. She is lost and would like to speak to her son Marvin. Is he there?" My heart skipped a beat as I answered. "No, Marvin isn't home, " I told Mary, "but I am her daughter-in-law, and will come and get her. She lives in a Nursing Home, and has a tendency to wander. Would you please keep her within view till I get there. She may wander away again."
After a brief chat with mom, assuring her that I would I be there in thirty minutes, I immediately got in the car and drove to the shopping center. The supervisor had thoughtfully given the clerk permission to take my mother-in-law for coffee till I got there. She was so happy to see me.
"Mom," I said, "I am happy to come get you. I was so concerned that you would be frightened about being lost."
She answered, "I was, but then I prayed and asked God what to do. He told me to tell someone, so they could phone you."
"Isn't God good to take care of you in that way?" I asked. "Yes," she said, "God is so good."
She was very tired because she had walked several miles to get to the shopping center. She was very happy to get back just in time for her dinner.
On the way home, I thought of that promise Isaiah 46:4. I saw the tenderness of the Lord in action that day. Even though my mother-in-law could no longer take care of herself, He gently reminded her to pray, to ask for help. He caused the clerk to be very caring and helpful, and I was home to fetch her.
Thank you, Lord for being so gentle and kind. So caring! Amen
