" May they be brought to complete unity to let the world know that you sent me and have loved them even as you have loved me." John 17:23
I believe that we will not see revival and spiritual awakening in Canada and the world until we take the prayer of Jesus in John 17 seriously.
Unity starts at home. My wonderful husband Marvin and I are united in our commitment to each other and to love and serve God wholeheartedly. Although that sounds very noble, it is amazing how little things can break this like-mindedness.
Whether it's one more phone call at 5 o'clock that makes Marvin late for dinner, or my habit of parking in the centre of our two car garage so he has move my car before he can park his, little incidents can grow into a wall of resentment if not dealt with immediately. We are committed to discussing the issues and bringing them to the LORD together.
During my quiet time one morning, God prompted me to call a woman with whom I have had difficulty. He wanted me to apologize for something I had neglected to tell her. I argued, but He assured me He would give me the words if I obeyed.
I called in obedience, but with fear and trembling. The conversation was stiff at first, but God was at work in both our hearts and after 30 minutes we were like-minded, our spirits were unified and we prayed together. The wall was down.
How about you? Do you have someone in your life who you have difficulty liking? Ask God to show you how to approach them so you can help bring about unity in the body.
Dear Father, we are so needful of your enablement in the area of resentment and all things that divide us as Christians. Help us to do whatever we can to bring about unity in the body of Christ. Amen
