My Interior Designer
by Taura Colbert"And I will give them one heart, and I will put a new spirit within you, and I will take the stony heart out of their flesh and will give them a heart of flesh" (Ezekiel 11:19).
I am a big fan of home decorating shows. My dream is to trade spaces with a friend and watch my home go from drab to dazzling. In fact, I have gone online and signed up for room makeovers on various cable home design shows. No callbacks yet but I am still hopeful. I even gobble up home design catalogs like my favorite cookies.
However, I am even more interested in life makeovers, the kind that makes you into a new creature all together. I know that the Lord being the creator and designer of the universe is well able to give our lives the kind of transformations that far surpass the hottest reality home decorating show on the market. I know because I didn't like the way my life looked and I was in desperate need of a remodel from the inside out.
God is a designer
He created you. He created me. He created ice cream. I love Him for that. He gave me my hips too, but that is a different story. God has references from ages ago. His resume includes maker of heaven and earth. He is personally responsible for telling the moon where to sit and stand each day and He moves mountains around without a dolly. God also decided strawberries should be red, He created the sunset and He actually knows what the color pewter is. If you think He can't put a room together, look at Tuscany or go to New England during the fall.
God loves good lighting
"And God said let there be light and there was light" (Genesis 1:3).
I absolutely love light fixtures. I wish I could blow glass and make funny shaped fixtures. Dingy dark rooms are never appealing and it is obvious when a room goes from ugly to pretty just based on light. In fact, God is light and in him there is no darkness. He wants my interiors to be the light of the world. The dark places that I have allowed to dominate areas in my life are exposed and removed in the light of His love.
God knows all about changing my walls
"And put on the new man which is renewed in knowledge after the image of him that created him" (Colossians 3:10).
God takes His paintbrush and goes over all my bad choices in life. My bad decisions can easily be brushed over by His colors of beautiful grace and bountiful love. He makes my muddy choices as white as snow. He knows how to get those hard to reach areas too. He has access to the areas in my life that I am even afraid to see.
God hates clutter
"Lay aside every weight and the sin which doth easily beset us …" (Hebrews 12:1).
Clutter removal is a booming business these days. People are actually making money consulting others about their junk. But God is also interested in removing the junk that is in me. His desire is to take away the things that block my view of his plans for my life.
God knows me from the inside
"Thus saith the Lord that made thee, and formed thee from the womb …" (Isaiah 44:2).
He created me knowing that pink may match me, but taupe may be more your style. With God, I don't need me to tell Him what I like, He knows me better than I know myself.
Remodel as a lifelong process
God has added beautiful texture to my walls. He has made my messes into beautiful mosaics. I continuously draw on His grace to cover all my mistakes in painting the ceiling by accident, punching holes in the walls, and in matching the wrong colors. His work is bonded and guaranteed. The best part is that the makeover was paid for ages ago by a carpenter who also happened to be the Savior of the world.
He is redesigning me and I am enjoying the end result
So the next time you need a recommendation for slipcovers, or a tip on where to purchase great leather furniture, I think I can help. And if you need a life makeover, call me for a referral. I know just the One to give you a brand new you.
