"Learning to Wait"

by Miriam de Motta

Waiting in line, waiting in traffic, waiting for the doctor to see you - in any way, waiting is part of life - also, in our spiritual life. God uses people and circumstances to teach us this lesson in our Christian walk. This has been one of the lessons God wanted to teach me during recent years.

I love to start the new year anticipating the projects and activities that I want to develop during the year and ask God for His "approval" about it. But starting the year without any plans or specific projects gives me the feeling of failure. Learning to have a blank agenda and waiting for God to fill it as He well pleases is not easy to learn. During the process of learning this lesson, God gave me a promise in Jeremiah 29:11, "For I know the plans I have for you, plans of goodness, not of calamity, to give a future and a hope."

Waiting for the Lord to fill my agenda with His plans different from mine has been a new experience for my faith and expectations. As a result, God has permitted us to minister to dozens of couples throughout Latin America, and in the United States, with the marriage and parents' seminars. Also, God has given me the opportunity to minister to different groups of women.

At the end of each year, I look back to the months that have passed with gratefulness in my heart because of the Lord's faithfulness to fulfill His plans in my life, and the calling that He has given to us as a couple.

What about you? God wants to be our leverage in living, empowering us to feel better about ourselves, more excited about our future, more grateful for those we love and more enthusiastic about our faith.

Do you need a solution to the chaos of life? Are you tired of trying to do it all yourself? Ask God to be the leverage you need in being more confident in who you are, more in tune with those you love, and more effective in your marketplace. Why not pray this simple prayer and by faith invite Him to fill you with His Spirit:

Dear Father, I need you. I acknowledge that I have sinned against you by directing my own life. I thank you that You have forgiven my sins through Christ's death on the cross for me. I now invite Christ to again take His place on the throne of my life. Fill me with the Holy Spirit as You commanded me to be filled, and as You promised in Your word that You would do if I asked in faith. I pray this in the name of Jesus. As an expression of my faith, I thank You for directing my life and for filling me with the Holy Spirit. Amen.

If you prayed this prayer, we at Christian Women Today would love to hear about it! We will e-mail you some information to help you grow, and respond personally to your questions.

We look forward to your comments.
